Paynton Ownership

Owners Jim and Margie Paynton have been loving stewards of Maranee since 1988 and  continue to enjoy the pleasures of cruising and maintaining her with their family.

Maranee's five minutes of fame: Seattle television personality Walter Kelley broadcasts live in front of Maranee at the 1998 Bell Street Pier Classic Rendezvous.

Cover Girl: Maranee's appearance on the cover of the November/December 1990 issue of Classic Boating. The photo is an early-morning scene at that year's Port Ludlow rendezvous by Land, Sea & Air.

Maranee's foredeck makes an appearance on the cover

of the July, 2000  issue of

Northwest Yachting.

After nearly fifty years, Doryann II gets a special visit from Dorothy ("Dory" of Doryann II) and Hank Benedict, who were newlyweds when Dottie's father Virgil owned the boat from 1946-1952.

Dory "Dot" Benedict, photographed at the helm of her father's boat during her Seattle visit, and her son Bill, photographed at the helm some 25 years later.  Notice the Lake Union steam plant on the opposite shore in both photos!

On September 1, 2001, Maranee played host to newlyweds Jalayne and Chris, ferrying them to their reception at Kiana Lodge near Puget Sound's Agate Pass. Jalayne had organized the ride unbeknownst to Chris, and had found  Maranee through this web site.

Chatterbox Falls peeks over the Maranee in both photos.  When we visited Princess Louisa Inlet in 2017, we tied up at the same place on the dock where the boat had moored almost fifty years earlier, under Wayne Quinton's ownership.

Maranee rests at Pender Harbour, BC, after crossing the Straits of Georgia on her way to Desolation Sound in 2019.

Jim and Margie are presented the prestigious "Best Restored Power Vessel" plaque at the 2023 Victoria Classic Boat Festival.
